Moody hidden speakeasy and cocktail bar in Tampa Bay Florida

Psst... Tampa Bay Has a Secret

The Best Speakeasies & Hidden Bars in Tampa Bay

Secret Entrances, Moody Cocktails & Tampa Bay Nightlife Hiding in Plain Sight

Some of Tampa Bay’s best nights out are hiding behind doors you’d probably walk right past. 👀🍸

We’re talking secret entrances, tucked-away rooms, dimly lit cocktail lounges, unexpected hideaways and places were figuring out how to get inside is half the fun.

From a hidden speakeasy in Hyde Park to a pirate hideout in Downtown Tampa and secret rooms along the historic streets of Ybor City, Tampa Bay has a whole other nightlife scene hiding in plain sight.

And at Frank Albert Realty, exploring Tampa Bay has always been about more than real estate. We love uncovering the restaurants, local businesses, neighborhoods and unexpected experiences that make this area interesting in the first place.

So tonight, we’re skipping the obvious spots.

Here are some of the best speakeasies and hidden bars in Tampa Bay, including where to find them, what makes each one different and what you should know before you start looking for that secret door. 🔐

Just remember: we told you nothing. 🤫

What Are the Best Speakeasies in Tampa Bay?

The best speakeasies in Tampa Bay combine creative cocktails with hidden entrances, immersive interiors, and a little mystery. Some embrace classic speakeasy style, while others put a distinctly Tampa Bay spin on the experience with pirates, historic Ybor influences, and unexpected concepts.

Some of the hidden spots we’re uncovering include:

  • 🍸 Jekyll in Hyde Park
  • 🏴‍☠️ Morgan’s Cove in Downtown Tampa
  • 🔐 Madame Fortune Dessert + HiFi Parlour in Ybor City
  • 🧪 LARA Apothecary Bar & Bazaar in Ybor City
  • 🍸 More hidden Tampa-area cocktail spots
  • 🗝️ Speakeasies across the bridge in St. Pete

Whether you’re searching for hidden bars in Tampa, a different kind of date night, or simply something new to do after dark, Tampa Bay has plenty of secrets left to uncover.

How many have you already found? 👀

Hidden Speakeasies in Tampa

Morgan’s Cove | Downtown Tampa

Apparently, a regular secret bar wasn’t enough for Tampa.

We needed a hidden pirate speakeasy. 🏴‍☠️😂

Welcome to Morgan’s Cove.

Located next to Yeoman’s in Downtown Tampa, Morgan’s Cove trades the traditional Prohibition theme for an immersive pirate tavern filled with nautical details, rum, whiskey, and plenty of Tampa personality.

It’s a fitting concept for a city that embraces pirate culture every year during Gasparilla.

🚪 How Do You Find It?

Here’s your clue:

Look for the wooden door and red light.

That’s the instruction straight from Morgan’s Cove. Once you find your way inside, you’ll step into a dimly lit pirate hideaway with a cocktail menu featuring rum-forward drinks, tropical flavors, classics, and more.

🏴‍☠️ The Vibe

Imagine Gasparilla + hidden speakeasy + tropical pirate tavern.

Yep. Very Tampa. 😂

The secret entrance, pirate décor, and themed cocktails make Morgan’s Cove feel more like an experience than a quick stop for a drink.

Its Downtown Tampa location also makes it easy to pair with dinner, entertainment, or a walk along the Tampa Riverwalk.

💡 Know Before You Go

Morgan’s Cove is located at 210 N. Morgan Street in Downtown Tampa. The venue is currently 21+ and walk-in only, so reservations aren’t part of the adventure.

Madame Fortune Dessert + HiFi Parlour | Ybor City

Now we’re getting serious about the hidden-room situation. 🔐

Walk into Roast on 7th in Ybor City and you might think you’ve simply found a deli and bakery.

Keep looking. 👀

Hidden inside is Madame Fortune Dessert + HiFi Parlour, a speakeasy-style experience combining cocktails, food, desserts, music, and a connection to Tampa history.

🔐 Why This One Stands Out

Madame Fortune isn’t just about turning down the lights and calling a room a speakeasy.

There’s a local story behind it.

The concept honors Fortune Taylor, an important figure in Tampa’s history. That connection gives Madame Fortune another layer beyond the hidden entrance and cocktails.

Add food, desserts, music, and its tucked-away location, and you have one of Ybor City’s more distinctive nighttime experiences.

🎶 The Vibe

Expect a mix of:

  • 🔐 Hidden-room energy
  • 🍸 Cocktails
  • 🎶 Music
  • 🍰 Desserts
  • 🏛️ Tampa history
  • 🌴 Ybor City atmosphere

In other words, this probably isn’t going to be your “We’ll just stop in for five minutes” place. 😂

💡 Know Before You Go

Madame Fortune is located at 1930 E. 7th Avenue C in Historic Ybor City. Hours vary throughout the week, so check the current schedule before visiting.

LARA Apothecary Bar & Bazaar | Ybor City

Just when you thought we were finished snooping around Ybor...

There’s another one. 👀

Located directly on East 7th Avenue, LARA Apothecary Bar & Bazaar takes the hidden-bar concept in a completely different direction.

The space combines an apothecary-inspired bar, bazaar, food, cocktails, and a speakeasy element under one roof.

🧪 What’s Hiding Inside?

This is where LARA gets interesting.

Its programming has included Cartoons & Cocktails in the speakeasy, alongside the larger apothecary bar and bazaar concept.

It’s a great example of how the Tampa speakeasy scene doesn’t have to mean recreating a traditional 1920s Prohibition bar.

Some places are taking the hidden-room concept and making it completely their own.

🍸 The Vibe

Expect something a little more eclectic.

The apothecary theme, cocktails, unusual setting, and speakeasy element make LARA an interesting stop for anyone searching for unique bars in Tampa instead of another predictable night out.

And because you’re right on 7th Avenue in Ybor City, there’s plenty around you to continue exploring afterward.

💡 Know Before You Go

LARA is located at 1919 E. 7th Avenue in Ybor City. Hours and weekly programming can change, so check the venue’s current schedule before heading over.

🍸 Tampa Bay Has More Secrets to Spill...

Four hidden spots down, and we’re nowhere near finished.

There are still more Tampa speakeasies, hidden cocktail bars, and secret lounges waiting outside Ybor and Downtown.

And then we’re crossing the bridge because St. Pete has a few secrets of its own. 👀🔐

CW’s Gin Joint | Downtown Tampa

If your idea of a speakeasy night involves getting a little dressed up, ordering a beautiful cocktail, and pretending it’s several decades earlier, CW’s Gin Joint belongs on the list.

Located on Franklin Street in Downtown Tampa, CW’s is less about finding an impossible-to-spot secret door and more about capturing the throwback glamour of the speakeasy era.

The restaurant describes itself as a throwback to a time when fine spirits were savored in a stylish but unpretentious atmosphere. The historic-feeling setting, live entertainment, extensive drink selection, and upscale atmosphere all add to the old-school experience.

🍸 Why It Made Our List

We're making an important distinction here.

CW’s isn’t a hidden-door speakeasy like some of the other places on our list.

Instead, it earns a spot for delivering that vintage cocktail-lounge atmosphere people often want when searching for speakeasies in Tampa.

And if gin is your drink of choice, you may have just found your place. CW’s even has its own Gin Matrix dedicated to navigating its gin selection.

The food menu also goes well beyond bar snacks, with full entrées, charcuterie, desserts, and dishes designed to pair with the cocktail experience.

✨ The Vibe

Think:

  • 🍸 Classic cocktails and an extensive spirits selection
  • 🎶 Live entertainment
  • 👗 Dress-up-worthy atmosphere
  • 🥃 Old-school cocktail lounge energy
  • 🍽️ Full dinner menu

Basically, this is the stop for when the group chat says, “Okay, but I actually want to look cute tonight.” 😂

💡 Know Before You Go

CW’s Gin Joint is located at 633 N. Franklin Street in Downtown Tampa. The venue currently lists its dress code as business casual/dress to impress, accepts reservations, and is closed on Mondays.

BAB’s Secret Lounge | Lutz

Okay, this is more like it.

Because what’s better than a secret cocktail lounge?

A secret cocktail lounge hiding behind a bookcase. 📚🔐

Located in Lutz, BAB’s Secret Lounge gives us a reason to venture beyond Tampa’s downtown nightlife districts in search of another hidden spot.

📚 How Do You Get In?

Here's your clue:

Find the bookcase.

BAB’s Secret Lounge is tucked inside International Beer Garten, with the hidden space accessed through a bookcase. Current listings place it at 16540 Pointe Village Drive, Suite 102, in Lutz.

And this is exactly why we wanted this blog to cover Tampa Bay speakeasies rather than focusing exclusively on Downtown Tampa.

Some of the most interesting hidden spots require a little exploring.

🔐 Why It’s Worth Finding

There's something undeniably fun about knowing there’s an entirely different space hiding behind what looks like an ordinary bookshelf.

It brings back the part of the speakeasy experience we love most:

The entrance is part of the adventure.

You’re not simply looking for another place to order a cocktail. You're looking for the thing you're not supposed to notice. 👀

💡 Know Before You Go

BAB’s Secret Lounge is located at 16540 Pointe Village Drive, Suite 102, in Lutz. Because hours and access details for hidden lounges can change, check the venue’s current information before making the drive.

Okay...Now We’re Crossing the Bridge 🌴

Tampa has given us hidden doors, pirates, apothecaries, bookcases, and plenty of cocktails.

But St. Pete understood the assignment too.

And one of its best-known hidden bars starts somewhere you probably wouldn't expect.

A laundromat. 🧺

Dirty Laundry | St. Petersburg

From the outside, Dirty Laundry looks like you might be stopping in to wash your clothes.

You are not.

Well...please don't bring your laundry. 😂

Located along Central Avenue in St. Petersburg’s Grand Central District, Dirty Laundry disguises its nightlife experience behind a laundromat-inspired exterior before revealing something completely different inside.

☎️ How Do You Find the Speakeasy?

Here's where it gets fun.

Look for the payphone.

Visit St. Pete-Clearwater specifically highlights Dirty Laundry's secret payphone entrance leading into its speakeasy lounge.

Once you figure out what to do, you're transported from the laundromat concept into a much livelier, Havana-inspired setting.

Now that is a reveal.

🌴 The Vibe

Dirty Laundry is less traditional 1920s Prohibition and more:

Secret entrance + Havana influence + cocktails + music + late-night St. Pete energy.

It's playful, immersive, and exactly the kind of place someone searching for hidden bars in St. Petersburg, Florida is probably hoping to find.

The venue also hosts special events, including comedy nights inside the speakeasy.

💡 Know Before You Go

Dirty Laundry is located at 1742 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg. Its current official schedule lists it as closed Monday and Tuesday, with service beginning Wednesday through Sunday and late-night hours extending to 3 a.m. on select nights.

It pairs perfectly with this one because sometimes the speakeasy is only stop number one. 👀

🍸 We're Still Not Done...

Because St. Pete has more hidden doors to open, including another secret cocktail spot and newer additions to Tampa Bay's speakeasy scene.

31 South Speakeasy | St. Petersburg Distillery

Okay, this one understood the assignment.

Hidden room? Check.

1920s inspiration? Check.

Actual password? CHECK. 🔐

31 South is one of the newest additions to the St. Pete speakeasy scene, tucked upstairs inside St. Petersburg Distillery at 800 31st Street S.

The distillery describes it as a hidden cocktail room overlooking its working production floor, complete with casks and copper stills below.

🔐 What’s the Secret?

First, you have to know there’s a speakeasy hiding upstairs.

Then there’s the password.

The official 31 South page tells visitors to check its Instagram for the current password before heading over.

Finally, somebody is making us work for our cocktail. 😂

🥃 The Vibe

Think 1920s-inspired glamour meets working Florida distillery.

Inside, Art Deco-inspired details and vintage glassware help create the throwback atmosphere, while cocktails showcase spirits produced by St. Petersburg Distillery itself.

That means you can sip a cocktail while overlooking the same distillery where its spirits are made.

Pretty hard to beat that setting.

💡 Know Before You Go

31 South is currently open Thursday through Saturday from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Seating is first come, first served, and the speakeasy does not accept reservations.

And one more time for the people already grabbing their keys:

CHECK THE PASSWORD FIRST. 😂🔐

Official Website: 31 South Speakeasy at St. Petersburg Distillery

The Winfield | Downtown St. Pete

Apparently, hiding a cocktail bar behind something wasn’t secret enough.

So St. Pete put this one underground. 👀

The Winfield is a cocktail parlor tucked into the basement level of Central Park, the multi-level food hall at 551 Central Avenue in Downtown St. Petersburg. The Winfield

Central Park’s official website currently lists The Winfield as open Wednesday through Saturday.

🥃 What’s the Secret?

Head downstairs.

Instead of a password, fake storefront, or disguised bookcase, The Winfield gets its hidden-bar atmosphere from its subterranean location.

You’re leaving the activity of Central Avenue above and heading into a small basement cocktail parlor below.

Basically:

“Meet me in the basement” has never sounded this classy. 😂🍸

🌙 The Vibe

The Winfield leans into the intimate, dark, cocktail-focused side of speakeasy culture rather than trying to recreate every detail of Prohibition.

💡 Know Before You Go

The Winfield is located inside Central Park at 551 Central Avenue in St. Petersburg.

Unlike some of the other places we’ve uncovered, I could not verify a separate official website specifically for The Winfield. However, Central Park’s official website currently lists The Winfield as one of its concepts, so that is the link I would use in the blog rather than sending readers to a third-party directory.

Mandarin Hide | Downtown St. Pete

This next stop comes with an important distinction.

Mandarin Hide isn't pretending there’s a secret password or hidden bookcase when there isn't one.

Instead, this longtime Central Avenue cocktail bar earns its place as a speakeasy-style bonus stop for anyone who cares just as much about the cocktails and atmosphere as they do about finding a hidden entrance.

The bar describes itself as St. Pete’s original craft-cocktail sanctuary and has been serving Central Avenue for more than 16 years.

🍸 Why It Made the List

Mandarin Hide is serious about cocktails.

Its official website highlights an extensive spirits collection and bartenders who can create a custom cocktail based on what you like if nothing on the menu catches your attention.

So while you won’t need to whisper a password at the door, you’ll still get plenty of the intimate cocktail-lounge energy people are usually looking for when searching for speakeasies in St. Pete.

🌙 The Vibe

Think low-key cocktail sanctuary, extensive spirits, creative drinks, and a Downtown St. Pete location that makes it easy to keep the night going.

Sometimes the cocktail itself gets to be the mystery.

💡 Know Before You Go

Mandarin Hide is located at 231 Central Avenue N. in St. Petersburg. Its official website currently lists hours as Tuesday through Thursday from 5 p.m. to 3 a.m., Friday from 4 p.m. to 3 a.m., and Saturday and Sunday from noon to 3 a.m. It is closed Mondays.

🔐 Okay...Which Entrance Wins?

At this point, Tampa Bay has made us find hidden doors, follow a red light, search behind a bookcase, pick up a payphone, look behind another business, track down a password, and head underground.

All this...

for a cocktail. 😂🍸

But that’s exactly why exploring the best speakeasies in Tampa Bay is more fun than simply picking another bar.

Each location puts its own spin on the concept. Some go full Prohibition. Others hide behind unexpected entrances. And a few simply create the kind of intimate, mysterious cocktail experience that makes you forget what’s happening outside.

So which one are you finding first? 👀

How to Plan a Tampa Bay Speakeasy Night

Before you start searching for secret doors, save yourself from standing on the sidewalk Googling “HOW DO I GET IN?!” 😂

  • 🔐 Check for a password. Some locations, including 31 South, may require one.
  • 📱 Check the official website before leaving. Hours and entry instructions can change.
  • 🍸 Reserve ahead when possible. Many speakeasies are intentionally small.
  • 👗 Check the dress code. Some locations are casual, while others have a more polished atmosphere.
  • 📍 Plan by area. Downtown Tampa, Ybor City, Hyde Park, Lutz, and St. Pete are spread out.
  • 🚘 Plan your ride home. If cocktails are part of the night, arrange a designated driver, rideshare, or another safe transportation option.

Tampa Bay Speakeasy FAQs

Are There Real Speakeasies in Tampa Bay?

Yes. Modern speakeasies operate legally, of course, but several speakeasies in Tampa Bay recreate the mystery of the Prohibition era with passwords, concealed entrances, intimate cocktail rooms, vintage-inspired interiors, and immersive themes.

Are There Speakeasies in St. Petersburg, Florida?

Yes. St. Petersburg has a growing collection of hidden bars and speakeasy-style cocktail lounges, particularly around Central Avenue, Downtown St. Pete, the EDGE District, and surrounding areas.

Do Tampa Bay Speakeasies Require a Password?

Not all of them.

Some rely on hidden entrances or unexpected locations instead. 31 South Speakeasy currently does use a password, and its official website tells visitors to check Instagram for the current one.

What Should You Wear to a Tampa Bay Speakeasy?

It depends on the location. Some speakeasies have an upscale cocktail-lounge atmosphere, while others are more relaxed.

Always check the venue’s current dress code before visiting.

Where Can You Find Speakeasies Around Tampa Bay?

You’ll find speakeasies and hidden bars throughout Tampa Bay, including Hyde Park, Downtown Tampa, Ybor City, Lutz, Downtown St. Petersburg, the EDGE District, and other parts of St. Pete.

🔐 Speakeasy Rules Nobody Tells You

Modern speakeasies might not be illegal drinking establishments anymore, but many still keep the mystery alive through passwords, unusual entrances, limited seating, and house rules.

A little preparation can make the difference between walking confidently through the secret entrance and standing outside wondering if Google Maps has betrayed you.

Check the Password Before You Leave

If a speakeasy uses a password, don’t assume last week’s will still work.

For example, 31 South Speakeasy directs visitors to its social media to find the current password before arriving.

Check the venue’s official website or social media the same day you plan to visit.

Because driving across the bridge only to discover you forgot the password?

Absolutely not. 😂

Don’t Assume Every Door Is the Door

Some of the best hidden bars in Tampa Bay intentionally make the entrance part of the experience.

You might be looking for a red light, heading behind another business, picking up a payphone, or walking into a place that doesn’t look like a cocktail bar at all.

Try not to spoil every detail before you arrive.

Knowing just enough to find the place keeps some of the mystery intact. 👀

Reservations Aren’t Always an Option

Speakeasies tend to be smaller than traditional bars, which means seating can fill quickly.

Some accept reservations, while others operate primarily or entirely on a first-come, first-served basis.

Always check the individual venue before heading out, especially on Friday and Saturday nights.

Dress for the Place You’re Visiting

There isn’t one universal Tampa Bay speakeasy dress code.

Some locations embrace an upscale cocktail-lounge atmosphere, while others are much more relaxed.

You definitely don’t need to arrive dressed like it’s 1925. 😂

Unless you want to.

In that case, commit to the bit.

🍸 The Secret’s Out...Now Go Find Them

Maybe you’re searching for the bookcase.

Maybe you’re picking up a payphone.

Maybe you’re following a red light.

Or maybe you’re standing inside a distillery thinking, “Okay...where are the stairs?” 😂

Either way, Tampa Bay has proven that going out for a cocktail can be a lot more interesting when finding the bar is part of the adventure.

So save this list, send it to the person who’s always asking “What are we doing this weekend?”, and start checking off some of the best speakeasies and hidden bars in Tampa Bay.
